The Extension Appeal

The Project

To demolish the existing garages at the rear of the Volunteer Centre and replace with a new building which will provide a range of services for the whole community but focusing on the needs of the most vulnerable people in Rutland.

Why do we need to extend the Rutland Volunteer Centre ?

Such has been the success of the Centre that Voluntary Action Rutland has identified the need from the many additional requests for services to serve the people of Rutland, especially the vulnerable and elderly. The recent census shows an above average older population in Rutland.

Voluntary Action Rutland is now at full capacity and no further expansion of services is possible due to the lack of space.

Extensio

Services to be offered

Day Care

Innovative and challenging day centre provision to increase availability and choice for older, disabled and vulnerable people.

‘Prevention’ rather than ‘cure’ will be the theme. Getting older, disabled and vulnerable people socially engaged has proven to enhance the quality of their lives.

Disabled Toilets / Bathroom Facilities

To have full specification disabled toilet facilities including walk in shower / bath and sluice facilities to cater for day centre clients.

Drop in Centre

The provision of a social area to enable and encourage the integration of socially isolated people.
Treatment Room

The proposed development to include a treatment room for day centre clients.

Therapeutic Workshops

The development to include the provision of workshop space which can be used by the whole community and include high specification facilities relating to the needs and training of older and disabled people. The workshop to include IT facilities.

Community Meeting Rooms

The internal design of the development to be such as to provide flexible accommodation, perhaps with adjustable partition walls to maximise the potential use by community groups.
