Voluntary Action Rutland supports and promotes local voluntary action by providing advice, information, support, training and consultation. We offer a wide range of services to members of the Rutland community and give priority to those most in need.

We can help with:

VAR is based at the Rutland Volunteer Centre, which can be accessed from Lands’ End Way in Oakham. Many Trusts, charities, businesses, volunteers and funders have contributed both time and money to make VAR a pleasant and friendly place to meet.

The Rutland Volunteer Centre is also home to a number of voluntary sector organisations which provide a wide range of services to the community.

VAR holds a comprehensive database of community groups and charities supporting the Rutland community, contact us for more details.

VAR is an ideal venue for all your meetings and events because of its central location in Rutland and excellent facilities for disabled users. There is also easy access to public transport and free parking!!!!

Oakham Town Partnership Car Boot Sales
Oakham Town Partnership is organising four car boots over the summer in the Burley Road car park on
Sunday 9th June
Sunday 14th June
Sunday 11th August
Sunday 8th September
Vendors can arrive from 8am with the car boot being open to the public from 9:30am to 12:30pm.
The charge for vendors will be £5 per a car and £10 for vans or trailers. The car boot will be free to attend for customers.
Vendors will need to pre-book a space by calling 01572 722622 (VAR closed 1pm Friday to 9am Monday) or emailing enquiries@varutland.org.uk.
There are 3 free spaces available to charities wishing to fundraise or raise their presence in the community.

VAR's 4th Annual Funding and Information Day
An opportunity for a one on one chat with national, regional and local funders includes Karen Ball fund, Rutland Trust, Leicester and Rutland community foundation, Mars in the community, Heritage lottery, Businesses in the community (BIC), and many more. Last year we had 70 groups attend looking for funding. Don’t miss your opportunity.

New Gift Aid system
If you claim Gift Aid, you must take action now to prepare for the new system.Charities Online - HMRC's new system for claiming Gift Aid. It replaces the paper form that members currently use to claim tax repayments.The transition period for implementing the changes will end on 30 September this year. This is a tight timescale so it's important that you take steps now to ensure you have everything in place. If you don't, your claims may end up being delayed or even reduced in value. East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commisioning Group website goes live
There is now health information for the public, patients and stakeholders just one click away with the launch of ELRCCG's new and innovative website.
The website provides easy access to information on health services in the area including the best places to go for the right treatment. The public will also be able to find out how to get involved in influencing decisions about health services including how they can join Patient Participation Groups and take part in consultations.

Free Charity Stall Space
Oakham Town Partnership run a popular Farmers Market in Gaol Street, Oakham every 3rd Saturday of the month. These are very well supported and provide the opportunity to buy local food and products, often directly from the farm or producer. The town partnership are providing a free space every month for a charity, sports club or community group.

From cooking to bike maintenance, growing your own food and even customising charity shop clothes! Running a variety of interesting activities locally.

VAR hosts Heritage Lottery Fund Workshop
On Tuesday 9^th April the Heritage Lottery Fund visited Rutland and held two workshops, one at VAR’s Conference room in Oakham and a later session at Uppingham’s Church Hall.
In total VAR worked with over 30 local groups and individuals from Rutland, 17 of which attended these sessions and a further 8 unable to attend requesting further information.
