  GETTING INVOLVED IN VOLUNTEERING

getmotivated1

WHAT IS VOLUNTEERING?
Volunteering means giving your time and skills to do something that you want to do to help other people. It usually entails helping an organisation which is supporting people with particular needs, or a community project.

WHY DO PEOPLE VOLUNTEER?
For all sorts of reasons; maybe they want to help other people, they have some spare time, they want to learn a new skill or use skills they already have. They may wish to build their confidence, make a difference or it may be they want to make new friends.

dosomethingworthwhileHOW MUCH TIME DO I HAVE TO GIVE?
As much as you want. People can volunteer for a couple of hours a week, a month or even two or three days a year. You can help during the week or in the evenings and at weekends - it depends on you!

tryitoutDOES YOUR GROUP NEED VOLUNTEERS?
VAR provides volunteers with the opportunity to make an informed choice about what they wish to get involved in.

To deliver this we require a wide variety of opportunities to offer to people so that they can find something that meets their expectations, motivation and time commitment.

Any charity, community group, not for profit or voluntary organisation delivering services in Rutland can register with VAR and we can promote your volunteering opportunities to the many people who contact us. We will also download your opportunities onto the National Volunteering Website do-it.

We often have requests from businesses, youth and community projects for one-off activities that volunteers can get involved in, so if you are holding an event or have a specific project (such as painting the village hall, clearing a piece of land or painting a mural) then please fill in our One-Off Opportunity Form and we can promote them.

We can also provide information and support to help you develop new opportunities from within your organisation, deliver good practice when working with volunteers and promote your organisation.
