SOCIAL CAR AND COMMUNITY TRANSPORT SCHEME

We operate an extensive transport scheme for frail elderly, disabled and vulnerable people in Rutland who have difficulty in travelling independently around the area covered by the Social Car Scheme.

This is a door-to-door service where volunteer drivers use their own vehicles to pick up clients and return them to their homes. The driver will wait for a reasonable time whilst the visit or appointment is concluded.

Clients who travel with our transport scheme are expected to contribute toward the cost of their journey according to a set tariff.

We welcome enquiries from those who find it difficult or impossible to use public transport, people who are geographically isolated and those with physical, sensory or learning disabilities.

Normally the booking staff will require at least seven working days to allocate a driver; this is dependent on driver availability.

MINIBUSES AND OTHER VEHICLE HIRE

Voluntary Action Rutland also offers the hire of the Volunteer Centre minibuses, 7-seat MPV and the wheel chair-accessible car. These can either be self-drive or a volunteer driver can be provided.

• We have a 16 seat standard minibus.

• Mercedes 15 seat wheelchair-accessible with tail lift and retractable step - with one wheelchair this would have 13 seats and with two wheelchairs it would be 12 seats.

• Renault Kangoo wheelchair-accessible vehicle which takes a wheelchair user and 2 passengers.

• Renault Espace 7 seat MPV.

VOLUNTEER DRIVERS

We are in constant need of additional drivers to drive their own cars to provide transport for frail elderly, disabled and vulnerable adults in Rutland to attend medical appointments, make essential journeys and join in social activities.

You decide how often you drive and what journeys.  A great way to meet new people and support your local community.

A generous mileage allowance of 45p per mile is paid to cover out of pocket expenses when using your own car.  Journeys will be offered to you with as much notice as possible, and you are free to accept as many or as few as you wish to.
