Social Car
Our Social Car Scheme is a door to door service, operated by Volunteer Drivers, for frail, elderly, disabled and vulnerable people in Rutland who have difficulty in travelling independently around the area.

Is it free?
No, we're not free, but we are much cheaper that private hire. We offer discounts for bus pass holders and are flexible to your needs

Volunteer Drivers
We are in constant need of additional drivers to drive their own cars to provide transport for frail elderly, disabled and vulnerable adults in Rutland to attend medical appointments, make essential journeys and join in social activities.
You decide how often you drive and what journeys. This is a great way to meet new people and support your local community.
A generous mileage allowance is paid to cover out of pocket expenses when using your own car. Journeys will be offered to you with as much notice as possible, and you are free to accept as many or as few as you wish to.
All our volunteer drivers will need to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) criminal records check and provide 2 references.
Community Transport Scheme
The below vehicles are available to hire from us, dependent on your needs. A brief description of each vehicle can be found below, but do contact us if you have any questions.
Peugeot Minibus
Peugeot 16 seat minibus, wheelchair accessible with tail lift, and side entry with retractable side step. Up to a maximum of 4 wheelchairs. Various seating configurations.
Minibus 2
Fiat 14 seat minibus, wheelchair accessible with tail lift, and side entry with retractable side step. Up to a maximum of 4 wheelchairs. Various seating configurations.
VAR Car
Peugeot Teepee 6 seats or 4 seats and 1 wheelchair-accessible
Register with Us
If you wish to register yourself, or someone else, for our services, please contact the Transport Office on 01572 724705 or email transport@varutland.org.uk
You will then be able to book drives via the Social Car Transport Form below. Once complete, please email it to us on transport@varutland.org.uk, or send it to us via post.
