Carsten Pigott, Chairman
Carsten is a retired senior diplomat, management consultant and visiting university lecturer, with a long-standing involvement in voluntary work, both in the UK and overseas. He and his family moved to Oakham in 1997 and he joined VAR, initially as a staff member, in 2009. Elected a Trustee in 2012, he’s been its Chairman since 2013.
Jeremy Millar, Vice Chairman
Jeremy is a retired NHS hospital CEO, and healthcare consultant both in the UK and abroad. He’s a former Herefordshire County Councillor with Cabinet responsibility for children’s wellbeing; a retired Magistrate with previous Police Authority roles; and has held several trusteeships with a number of national and local healthcare and educational charities.
Archie Sains, BEM
Archie trained as an Agriculturalist and spent his whole career in the meat industry. On the basis of that experience, he was recruited as an adviser to the British government, as well as to the EU in Brussels. He moved to Rutland in 2001 and has been active in the voluntary sector since then, working as a VAR volunteer driver, with LOROS, and at the Rutland Museum.
Tony moved to Rutland from West Leicestershire with his family in 1973. He was a partner in a firm of solicitors in Leicester specialising in probate and property law from 1970 until 1992. From 1992 until retirement in 2014 he was a Tribunal Judge based in Leicester but also sat in venues in a number of other towns in the Eastern Region.
Chris worked as a Barrister from Leicester chambers. In 1984 he was appointed an Employment Judge. He retired in 2014, but from 1991 until 2017 was a Crown Court Recorder. Chris was on the Board of Visitors for Gartree prison and has been involved with a number of local charities.
